José Bomfim (Mogi das Cruzes, Brazil, 1981) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Talavera de la Reina, Spain. He practices painting, drawing, collage, and assemblage, using materials such as acrylic on plastic, tempera on wood, and various techniques on paper. His compositions incorporate objects and papers salvaged from trash within a space where classical heritage coexists with expressionism, and the persistence of memory is constantly confronted with the ephemeral nature of life and the force of chance.
His work can be seen as a meditation on the unity of knowledge and the richness of the world through a fragmented aesthetic, revisiting classical themes with an irony that does not lose sight of tenderness and the power of figuration. Among his notable projects are Memory Cards, a series that revisits iconic landscapes and characters using recycled credit cards, and Repeat, Please, collages that allude to the tension between geometric forms and human spontaneity.
He has exhibited in São Paulo, Madrid, Terrassa (Espai2), Toledo, and Talavera de la Reina.
